The documentary GRRRL: 25 Years of Riot Grrrl seeks funding to interview Southern riot grrrls, including Jack Off Jill!!!

The Southern Riot Grrrls are always left out of the narrative.

Now we can change that!

Help the GRRRL crew get to NC to document Jack Off Jill's U.S. reunion show!
Our team of DIY-filmmakers are eager to film Jack Off Jill's one-off reunion show at The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC.

The Southern Riot Grrrls are always left out of the narrative -- until now!

This marks our entrance into the last phase of shooting for our documentary GRRRL: 25 Years of Riot Grrrl , and is the culmination of 3 years of shooting footage across this wide country, and we are excited to bring this dream to life!  Riot Grrrl is a feminist movement that incorporated music, art, social discourse and community building in order to bring a change in this misogynist western world. WCADC member Bonnie MacAllister is a part of the film.

 GUTFREUNDCORNETT ART
CALL FOR ART
In the upcoming election year, what does democracy mean in the United States? It's time for artists to get on their soapboxes – whether it is a conceptual soapbox (Warhol) or direct Statement Art (Jenny Holtzer) and tell us what you think about democracy in America.
What did our forefathers intend in the Constitution with the freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, the pursuit of happiness, etc. To whom do these tenets apply in a racially, religious and politically divided country?

GCA is asking artists to share their voices in this art-based conversation about democracy and seeks art that address and interprets these broadly.

DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR? | CURATED BY ANTHONY ELMS
MARCH 17 - APRIL 17, 2016

Do you hear what I hear? is a question posed by one person to another. Behind Do you hear what I hear? is a request — hope — for a connection between individuals responding to their environment. Work in all media will be accepted, or listened to, even as listening is directly alluded to in the title. How do you listen? It depends on who you are. Current affairs routinely offer tragic examples of the many-sided responses to actions and events in the world at large. Recent books such as Rebecca Solnit’s Men Explain Things to Me and Claudia Rankine’s Citizen: An American Lyric, directly speak to race and gender in the American social sphere, and elucidate how both race and gender too often render many citizens unheard, unseen, and unattended to.

Respecting the varied ways races, genders, sexualities and classes interpret the world around us, let’s learn to listen to the stories, histories, and traditions of many. This is an open appeal, to ask, “Do you hear what I hear?” to fight the dismissals and silences, because something is happening, even if you aren’t always sure what it is.

DEADLINE IS JUNE 12, 2015, 11:59PM
FEE WILL INCREASE TO $40 AFTER MAY 21

Please feel free to pass this along to any women artists who may want to submit!
