The 2012 Women's Caucus for Art Summer Board Meeting in Michigan is only a month away. This special bulletin provides all the information you need to make your plans. The WCA Michigan chapter has organized an incredible program of art-viewing and fine dining, with plenty of networking opportunities. Join us at the board meeting on Sunday to find out about our three national initiatives: Chapter Community, Legacy and National Exhibitions. See you in July!


Event Program

Thursday, July 19 River's Edge Gallery Meet & Greet and Networking. 
6:00 pm - meet at the Dearborn Inn lobby to carpool. Dinner to follow. No reservations necessary.

Friday, July 20  All-Day Tour of Ann Arbor and/or Art Fair. Opening Reception for Man Up! No Balls About It.
You must pre-register for this tour through Eventbrite.

8:30 am bus pickup at Dearborn Inn
Go on self-directed tour of Art Fair, OR take group tour:

- Motts Children's Hospital Art Collection Tour.
- Zingerman's Sack Lunch at the University of Michigan Hospital with    the director of the Gifts of Art Program
- Ross Business School

5:30 pm Both self-directed and group tour groups meet at City Hall in front of the Herbert Dreiseitl project.

Bus to North Campus for dinner and opening reception for Man Up! No Balls About It. Meet Juror Suzy Lake.

9:00 pm Bus back to Dearborn Inn
 


Saturday, July 21: All-day tour of Detroit and dinner in Mexican Town
You must pre-register for this tour through Eventbrite.

10:00 am bus pickup at Dearborn Inn

Detroit Museum of Art: brief talk at the Rivera Courtyard about murals with Javier and Gabrielle Pescador.

Lunch on your own and tour area. N'Namdi Art Center, Detroit Artists' Market, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Re-View Gallery, Wright Museum of African American Art.

Tea, Tour & Talk at the fabulous Scarab Club hosted by the Scarab Club and The Detroit Society of Women Painters & Sculptors.

Bus to Eastern Market, CyberOptix Tie Lab Studio, Pioneer Building Studio, and Sculpture Park.

Dinner in Mexican Town.

Bus back to Dearborn Inn.


Sunday, July 22:: WCA Executive Committee & Board meeting at the Arab American National Museum

Airport Logistics

Unless you are renting a car, the best way to get to the Dearborn Inn is by taxi. Taxis are available curbside at the Detroit Wayne County Airport. It takes 15 minutes to the hotel and the approximate fare is $22. To return to the airport, the front desk can arrange for a taxi pickup. They need approximately 15 minutes' advance notice.  

Opportunity: Call for Artists: Hillyer Art Space



   
Hillyer Art Space is currently looking for local DC Metro area artists and international artists to submit work for solo shows for the 2013-2014 exhibiition year. 
 
 
Proposals must include the following materials: 
  • Minimum of 5 images with a Maximum of 10 submitted on a disc or by email as a high resolution JPEG* (please save each of the images with their corresponding title--minimum resolution accepted is 1920x1080 pixels)
  • A complete checklist of works containing the title, year, medium, and dimension of each work
  • Resume including address, email, phone number, education, and any previous exhibitions (with clear indications whether it was solo or group)
  • Artist statement or exhibition narrative not to exceed one page
  • *Minimum accepted resolution on images is 1920x 1080 pixels.
 
Submissions Due August 31, 2012 by 6:00pm
 
 
Requirements:
  • DC Metro area artists cannot have had a solo show within the past three years
  • International artists have no restrictions on exhbition history but must becurrently living abroad
Artists may deliver proposal materials via mail or email. If mailed, please provide a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like your materials returned.

WCA/DC Panel at Artomatic







Women's Caucus for Art Panel Discussion

Panelists Lynda Smith-Bugge, HIRO, CM Judge, Bonnie MacAllister, Cherie M. Redlinger, Cindy K. Renteria

The panelist presented slides of their work, and they responded to interview questions by their peer panelists.  The audience participated in a question and answer session.  The panel was followed by a tour of member artists participating in Artomatic.
