Dedicated to the inspiration, celebration and encouragement of women in the visual fine arts American Women Artists 17th Annual National Juried Competition
American Women Artists seeks to select an exhibition of representational fine art that exemplifies the utmost in excellence in terms of composition, technique, mastery of medium and quality of design. The final selection will elegantly showcase a diverse group of representational women artists who draw, paint or sculpt in traditional or contemporary style. Approximately 60 pieces of work will be chosen as the finalists to be exhibited in AWA’s 17th Annual National Juried Competition Exhibition at the Addison Art Gallery in Orleans, Massachusetts. The show of National Juried Competition finalists will also be posted on www.americanwomenartists.org website gallery. Total awards will be approximately $25,000 in cash and prizes, with a Best of Show award package of over $8,000. Award packages are designed to encourage and inspire women in the visual fine arts.

Beautiful tribute to Nelson Mandela

The remarkable thing about this artwork is that it is only when you stand at a certain distance (which is marked) that you see ….
The Nelson Mandela Sculpture in Howick KwaZulu-Natal South Africa. The artist of the sculpture is Marco Cianfanelli. The sculpture is made up of 50 poles that symbolize the 50th Anniversary of his arrest in Howick KwaZulu-Natal. The poles range in height from 5 meters to 10 meters. When one walks through the poles, the practical pattern gives the effect of a gunshot which symbolizes the political uprising of the ANC . The Length of the sculpture is 20 meters. The front of the sculpture is a portrait of Mandela, it has vertical bars which represents his imprisonment. The portrait of Mandela can only be viewed at 35 meters from the front of the sculpture when all the poles line up. This gives a nod to the fact that Mandela was so hard to capture. Mandela was dubbed "the black pimpernel". Go here to see how it was built:

Join AHCMC + Kramer Gallery as we host a community conversation on cultural Identity. AHCMC CEO Suzan Jenkins will lead a panel of artists and community leaders in a discussion on cultural identity, and what it means for the arts and our increasingly diverse community. This conversation will be held in connection with Kramer Gallery's latest exhibition "Cultural Exchanges", on view through February 7th.
